Artizan International - UK

At Artizan we're passionate about making the world a more inclusive, accessible place for everyone. Adults and children who are differently-able often feel very socially isolated and excluded from opportunities available to their able-bodied peers. We want to heal the divide between the able and perceived less able, so that everyone can benefit from being part of an enriched, creative community as a result.

At our HQ in Harrogate, we have a beautiful fairtrade shop selling the crafts made by our artisans overseas, plus a crafts studio, office and packing area for online orders. Do feel free to come and visit us (Covid-restrictions allowing!), we'd love to show you around.

This year we plan to start two new social enterprises, to provide training, work experience and day services, for the countless adults with disabilities in our region who are in need of these opportunities. If you'd like to get involved or support us to do this, then please do get in touch. More information will be shared here very soon.

During the lockdown, we've been delighted to be able to provide monthly crafts packs including 4 weeks' worth of crafts activities to do at home, weekly crafts tutorial videos and zoom sessions, plus weekly phone calls, to help our participants feel connected and less socially isolated. Before the current lockdown, we were able to provide free weekly craft workshops for adults & children with physical and/or learning disabilities in Harrogate and Horsforth, Leeds, which were available every week during term time .

Information for our participants during the Covid-19 Lockdown:

Hello everyone,

We hope that this email finds you in good health and spirits in what is a very difficult time for us all.
Following all the recent Government updates we hope that the following information keeps you up to date with things here at Artizan UK.  We hope the following may help with any questions or concerns you may have.

I feel like i need to talk to someone...
We understand this is a difficult and worrying time. It is unprecedented in our history, and we want to support our volunteers and differently-able artisans as much as we can.
Liz and Susie are still working, be it from home with altered hours around home-schooling the children (eek!) so do drop us an email or call us if you need us.
Liz is trained as a mental health first aider so she is more than happy to support anyone needing comfort and calm reflection.s to

I'm worried about being disconnected and getting bored...
We can (good health permitting) deliver craft activities to you at home. We have Ecuadorian cards to pack ready for sale, tiles to be broken down for mosaic projects and many more helpful tasks that would be amazing support for us and keep boredom at bay for you and your family so please, again, get in touch and we can drop off at your home with no contact required.

So What now?...
We hope to re-open - and reschedule activities - as soon as possible however we are not currently able to give any timescales as to what this may be.Full government advice around the virus can be found below:

Stay safe everyone and stay in touch, our intern Cat is working hard on creating instructions sheets for stay-at-home crafts and on updating our social media platforms,  so be sure to follow us and the cheery South American colours will keep your spirits high.

Love and Light,

Liz and Susie x
