What do we do?
Why do we do it?
People with disabilities in the UK and the developing world are often extremely socially isolated, have reduced access to education and are often excluded from employment. They have skills, talents and abilities and just want to be given the same opportunities as everyone else to shine. That's what we're about. Our mission is to enable, empower and support differently-able people to reach their full potential through therapeutic crafts workshops, high-quality crafts training and social enterprises in the developing world that transform lives. Hot off the press:
Article in the Yorkshire Post! (& a video too!)
Artizan International is the new name for Craft Aid International.
We've changed our name for two reasons :
1) to make it much easier to pronounce for those we work with in Latin America and - in the future - elsewhere in the world. This is really important so that the differently-able people we work with are able to pass on news about the project by word-of-mouth and let others know about the opportunities available for them.
2) because the word 'AID' possibly suggests the creation of dependency, which is actually the opposite of what we're about. We're about creating skills, independence and dignity, not dependency.
We hope you like the new name! Exciting times.
